I almost feel guilty putting this “recipe” on the blog because it is sooooo easy. I just can’t help myself though because it is seriously one of my favorite appetizers! I invented this one out of necessity one Christmas Eve when the food was taking longer than expected and I had a house full of hungry guests. I went to the pantry and found a loaf of ciabatta and some Rao’s marinara sauce and I knew I was saved! I have jazzed them up a bit over the years, but now these delicious bread sticks are Christmas tradition and major crowd pleaser.

All you need is some fresh ciabatta bread, fresh mozzarella, salt, crushed red pepper, olive oil and a jar (or 2) of Rao’s marinara sauce.

I’ve said it before, but I have to say it again- this truly is the BEST marinara sauce you can buy.

Heat the marinara sauce in a small saucepan over a medium flame.

Carefully cut the ciabatta loaf in half (lengthwise)

Season the bread by drizzling on some good olive oil, salt and crushed red pepper

Now, layer on some fresh mozzarella cheese

Place the ciabatta loaf on a baking sheet and bake at 425 for about 15-18 minutes until the mozzarella begins to bubble and turn golden brown

Let the bread cool for a few minutes and then slice into 1.5-2 inch sticks

Serve on a large platter with the sauce in the middle. Enjoy!

Ciabatta Bread Sticks

Ingredients

  • 1 loaf fresh ciabatta
  • 4 tablespoon good olive oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon Kosher salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
  • 16 oz fresh mozzarella cheese, sliced
  • 1 jar Rao's marinara sauce

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 425
  2. Heat the marinara sauce in a small saucepan over a medium flame
  3. Slice the ciabatta loaf in half lengthwise using a serrated knife
  4. Season the bread with the olive oil, salt and crushed red pepper
  5. Layer on the mozzarella cheese
  6. Place the bread onto a large baking sheet and bake for 15-18 minutes until the cheese is bubbling and golden brown
  7. Serve on a large platter with the hot marinara sauce on the side
