ManFood Monday * Italian Sloppy Joes
ManFood Monday is all about super simple, super filling and super delicious recipes that are easy enough for a man 🙂 but so good, everyone will want a taste. Today’s ManFood recipe is the Italian Sloppy Joe. This recipe originated from a leftover meatball dish and just might be my favorite sandwich of all time. We took our original {and more complicated} meatball recipe and simplified it to make this extremely easy sandwich.
Anytime you see a recipe with only 6 ingredients, you know its easy! All you need for this is some hot Italian sausage, a jar of Rao’s Marinara sauce, provolone cheese, some Italian hoagies, hot cherry peppers and some dried basil.
Now, this ingredient is so important it get its own picture and caption!!! This is by far the best store bought marinara sauce you can find {and in many cases better than homemade} if you swap it for a different kind, I cannot promise the deliciousness mentioned above. It is a little pricy, but it is 100% worth it, trust me! I usually get the Arrabbiata sauce, but if you can’t find it, get the marinara. Usually this sauce is in the International section or the organic section.
Start by browning the Italian sausage in a large skillet
When the meat is cooked through, add in the Rao’s sauce.
Let the sauce mixture simmer for about 5 minutes while you get the sandwiches ready.
Slice the Italian hoagies by starting to cut them in half but don’t cut all the way through.
Put the hoagies on a large baking sheet, lined with foil{I forgot to do this}, and place two slices of cheese on each one.
Then, spoon on the Italian sloppy joe mixture being careful not to overfill the sandwiches.
Place 2-3 hot cherry peppers on each sandwich- these are delicious and give the sandwich extra flavor.
Top each sandwich with 2 more slices of cheese and pop them in a 425 degree oven for about 10-12 minutes until the bread turns golden and the cheese melts.
When the sandwiches are ready, sprinkle on some dried basil and serve them up. I recommend using a fork because they can get a little messy :).
Enjoy!
